I had never thought I was particularly a fan of western fiction but I absolutely LOVE this book. I got this book and fortunately it was free because I already had it in another book that includes 9 complete novels by Seltzer. This was written from a man's point of view but I did not mind that because the man was so awesome. He came to the rescue of a young girl who was being bullied and the man who was bullying her became our hero's worst enemy. I loved how the hero handled this man in subsequent encounters. I would recommend not only this book but also the 9 books under one cover which includes this story.Product details

The Coming of the Law Classic Westerns Charles Alden Seltzer 19111921 Book 2 edition by Charles Alden Seltzer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A very nice and captivating story. The hero is very much of a hero--and manages to keep the peace and do justice without using his revolver. I liked it a lot.
A story line that came forth about the law coming to the west. This story implied that law as coming and
gave lines how it was moving west. Most other westerns just implied that is was coming..
I have read the title book and am almost through with the second one that comes with it. They are both very good stories. The early 1900 writers wrote a little differently, but these, like Zane Grey books rate pretty highly with me.
I love western and this was two good books. I like my westerns to be exciting and clean. I don't mind a weak swear word now and again, but I do not like them to be fulgar. For me, it does not inhance the story at all. I like it to be about real people that I could relate to if I was at that time and place.
Though the beginning of this story was somewhat off putting due to the strong characterization of Cal,the story had some nice twists and turns that made it a good read.
the hero is an estranged son. He went west to finalize his inheritance. a late Twenty something that seemed asexual. However, he is and was newspaper man. He continued his father's once weekly paper. the bad guy is smart ,sinister, and evil. the hero was able to motivate non assisting neighbors. eventually, of course, the town sides with him. His father had a run down ranch, too. A happy ending.
I enjoyed this story--the first one by this author that I can remember reading. The story line and the writing style reminded me of the novels written by Zane Grey. Not too surprising since this author and Mr. Grey were contemporaries. The hero has ideals of the highest order, the issues are black and white and the writing is very descriptive, although somewhat stilted. If you enjoyed the works of Zane Grey, you will probably like this story. As for me, I plan to read more of the books by this author.
